Are We Attempting the Impossible Yet?

I received this message in an email today from a friend, Dave McCarty. He poses a question that we began asking at the Membership Dinner a couple of weeks ago.

“Are we attempting the impossible today in missions, in churchplanting, in local-church ministry?  Or are we just like any other human organization, planning and managing by objective, operating by human power, doing what human ability can do—the possible? We don’t need Jesus for the possible.”

We don’t need Jesus for the possible. Wow!

Dave’s challenge is why one of our theme passages for this year as a church is Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

We can do the possible. But Jesus can do the impossible! So, are we attempting the impossible yet? If not, let’s get busy defining the impossible and dreaming that God would do it as we stop merely planning and start really praying… because He is able!
